We Don't Regress

Life is going to get chaotic. That’s just a reality of adulting. Whether you work outside your home or not, between managing a household, pets, a family, or whatever it is that’s a priority to you, life can be crazy. The days pass by quickly and seem to be filled with a million things that NEED to get done but might not necessarily happen.

I don’t care if you become stagnant or even plateau, but your ass better not go backwards.

I know exactly what happens to you when shit hits the fan and life seems crazier than normal. The first thing to go are your workouts. You just don’t have time right? You have this activity or that activity to get to, your kids need whatever they need from you, and frankly there’s just not enough hours in the day to get it all done. So bye bye fitness. You know what goes usually right after that? Your eating. I mean you’re not working out anyways so why worry about what your shoveling in your face? Plus you’re so busy that you don’t have time to even think about it. You’re more concerned with just having something as opposed to nothing at all.

That’s all backwards motion to me. Regression at its finest. And no one is immune from it. But we have to have better coping mechanisms than that so when you are at the point where you can get consistent in your routine again, you don’t feel like you’ve been set back so far that there’s no catching up so there’s no point in TRYING to catch up.

Don’t throw all your hard work out the window. When life gets crazy, we have to learn how to adapt and overcome. Have a plan for your week so you don’t get caught up in the chaos. Know the days that would work for you to get a workout in. Maybe that means you don’t get your workout one day, or maybe it means the workout is modified, but compensate for that in other ways. Be mindful of what you’re eating, make the effort to prep healthy snacks so you’re not grabbing for whatever is available and be intentional with your water intake. Maybe even cut out the alcohol on the days you know you’re not going to be working out.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, this is all a journey and walking this journey means making the necessary adjustments to ensure you can still be making progress towards your goals.

At the end of the day, don’t give up. Don’t quit on yourself and don’t go backwards. Remind yourself that your goals are still important and still deserved, even if the day isn’t perfect.

You're Great

Being healthy and living a healthy life is a journey, not a destination. I know we’ve sent certain goals for ourselves, and those goals for sure feel like destinations. Like when that 15 extra pounds are actually OFF. There’s your destination. I know you want to be at the end of your journey.

Fall in love with the process of becoming great.

Being healthy and living a healthy life is a journey, not a destination. I know we’ve sent certain goals for ourselves, and those goals for sure feel like destinations. Like when that 15 extra pounds are actually OFF. There’s your destination. I know you want to be at the end of your journey.

You want to be wearing those jeans that taunted you from the bottom of your drawer for FOREVER with confidence and sass.

And you will.

But once you reach that destination what do you do? Because I know the last thing you would want to have happen after you lose the 15 pounds is to put it back on and then some. Or feel like you hit a plateau on your workout and not know how to push through it.

It’s a process and hopefully one you’ll learn to relish and enjoy. You’re building a foundation of health for yourself, you’re setting an example for your kiddos, and most importantly you’re taking care of yourself. It’s a beautiful thing to become great, to discover your strength and step into your power.

Maybe you know how to get that weight off, maybe you know what to do to make sure you’re eating healthy, maybe you’re already doing it.

If you are, that’s awesome. But it won’t do any good if you don’t know how to maintain it, and trust me, it’s only going to lead to frustration if you slide backwards.

Schedule your 15 minute free consultation via the link below to make sure you have the right foundation for success.

The Snack that Keeps the Hangries Away

When did life get so chaotic? I feel like every day is so jam packed with activists, that it’s super easy to forget about things like making sure you have healthy snack options. Well not forget per se, but definitely neglect prepping things for yourself.

By Wednesday, I’m so exhausted and overwhelmed, that buying snack in the Starbucks drive through line seems way easier on my brain than actually making stuff.

When did life get so chaotic? I feel like every day is so jam packed with activists, that it’s super easy to forget about things like making sure you have healthy snack options. Well not forget per se, but definitely neglect prepping things for yourself.

Don’t even get me started on how irritated it makes me when we’re out, we have nothing with us and we’re starving and then I’m spending a shit load of money on super inflated snack prices when I could’ve just grabbed things from home HAD I been prepared.

But I know that I can have the tendency to let this part of meal prepping go, so I know I need to have healthy options ready to go.

This recipe came from me wanting something that was everything I would need for a well rounded snack in a single Tupperware container.

It also came from me learning about how awesome Chia seeds are and wanting to figure out a way to incorporate them into my diet more.

Chia seeds are an awesome source of Omega-3 fatty acids (amongst other things) which means they help improve sleep! I’m always down for a good night’s sleep after all!

They also help improve the amount of healthy cholesterol your body has, which I know might not be a primary concern but it’s definitely a longevity concern.

The other thing I dig about this recipe is the versatility of it. Because I can mix in PB, flax seed, different flavors of yogurt or even top it with fresh fruit and it’s always delicious.

Fair warning though, the chia seeds expand in liquid and over time so those little tough seeds are going to get a little plump as the week goes on!

My Top 5 Dinner Recipes When Meal Prep is Leaving You Frustrated

Look, I get it. Meal planning oftentimes is one of those best laid plans that sometimes fall to absolute shit. I say it because I’ve been there. It’s like post child bedtime and you should be planning what your family is going to eat next week but the prospect of combing through recipes, finding new recipes, or writing anything down is daunting AF.

You know in that moment that you’re just going to end up discouraged and frustrated because what you would rather be doing is zoning out to something on your DVR that’s NOT Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

The caveat to this is that you also know that anything you choose to cook your family in this moment will be met with dismay by said family when you put it on your table. There’s nothing more frustrating than that. I love cooking, don’t get me wrong, it’s such a source of selfcare and I attribute cooking to being the only reason why I still know fractions. But when you bust your ass in your kitchen for any length of time to put dinner on the table and then your family bitches about said dinner…well. That’ll make you want to cut someone. Like how quickly can I slam my head into a wall level of frustration.

Those moments drive me crazy. Really, I got super blessed because those moments were few and far between when it was just me and the hubs. We’re both not picky eaters, so as long as the meals were reasonably healthy, he didn’t care what was put in front of him. He really is a dream in that respect (and many others) because not only would he eat it, but he would also compliment my cooking and be excited about the food.

But then I had Grace. Who has a HUGE opinion sometimes. Especially about food, as most small humans tend to do.

All of a sudden, I’m stuck between the rock and hard spot of force feeding her something for dinner, or making multiple dinners. I’ll give her this, she’s generally a fairly adventurous eater, she’ll try lots of things but she definitely gets into modes where no new food is welcome. She’ll look at me like I’ve insulted her if I try to introduce something new. Like GOD FORBID.

Annoying as that is, I’m trying to provide her with all the healthy nutrition I can, so when she gets into those moments, I fall back on these recipes. For everyone’s sanity I have to, otherwise things at the dinner table would get super ugly.

Seeing as how adulting is hard AF and parenthood is a straight up ThunderDome, I feel like the least I can do for my fellow adulting their asses off adults is to share the recipes that have worked for my family, in the hopes they work for your family as well.
