Fail Bigger

I want you to have those moments when you tell yourself you can’t do it, when you quit, when you get so frustrated you don’t know how you’ll do this again tomorrow.

I want you to fail.

Just wait a second. I know it sounds crazy so just hear me out.

I want you to have those moments when you tell yourself you can’t do it, when you quit, when you get so frustrated you don’t know how you’ll do this again tomorrow.

There’s power in those moments.

Because failing is a frame of mind.

I tell my clients all the time the phrase “I can’t do it” isn’t allowed in my class. I know you can do it, maybe not today but you will.

I also know that failing gives you a baseline. It shows you where you’re starting from, and where you’re going to grow. It gives you a foundation. A launching pad for continued strength and transformation.

It also shows you that you’re more resilient and more of a badass than what you may have previously thought. Because after the moment of failure, you’re going to keep showing up and keep putting in the work.

I know you’ll succeed and your fitness goals will become your reality, your healthy changes will become your lifestyle, but you need a safe space to figure out your starting point.

From there you’ll see your growth and ultimately get your transformation.

Healthy Living is Bigger than Changing Your Diet

I want a tailored program for you that teaches you the easy healthy habits you can have in your daily life, so you can still enjoy the life you work so hard for without feeling like you’re deprived of the things you love 💗.

I don’t subscribe to the healthy living programs that have you vacillating from one side of the pendulum to the other. There is nothing more frustrating 😤 than giving up every enjoyable aspect of life, getting this HUGE transformation and then totally losing it because the changes were too drastic.

That my friend, is the yo-yo of healthy living and I feel some aspects of that are worse than the lifestyle you currently have. Not only can it potentially mess with your body in irreversible ways, it also messes with your head. There is nothing a whole lot more defeating than working so hard to get this amazing transformation and not being able to hold on to it because the way you got it isn’t realistic for your daily life.

I want a tailored program for you that teaches you the easy healthy habits you can have in your daily life, so you can still enjoy the life you work so hard for without feeling like you’re deprived of the things you love 💗.

It’s the harder change to make because it takes longer and I know you want the results NOW. It’s also the harder change to make because it’s going to challenge you to unpack why you make certain decisions so you can truly understand why you’ve gotten to where you are. But I know this change is more effective because I know once you make it, you won’t have to make any more changes. Ever again.

You’ll know why you make decisions about food and working out, and you’ll also know how to navigate around those reasonings so you can have the healthy life you want with the balance you also want.

You Know EXACTLY What To Do

You’re smart Boo and you know exactly what you need to do in order to get your body back to a point where you’re happy to see yourself naked in a mirror.

Girl, I do NOT need to tell you what to do when it comes to being a healthy mama.

I’ve been training people for a long time and in that time I’ve seen two commonalities amongst every single person I’ve trained: I’m not dealing with weak people and I’m sure AF not dealing with dumb people.

You’re smart Boo and you know exactly what you need to do in order to get your body back to a point where you’re happy to see yourself naked in a mirror.

Move your body and eat well.

I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know.

So if it’s that easy, how come we’re not all doing it? Because you have to get to the point in your life where you either get so frustrated with your status quo that you’re willing to do whatever it takes to change it, and you also have to know that you’re deserving of that change. In accordance with those feelings, you also have to know that the world isn’t going to fall apart because you take an hour to workout.

The goals you’ve set for yourself matter and more importantly, all that shit that was on your plate before the workout will be there for you AFTER the workout. I guarantee it. So give yourself the endorphin rush to have the energy to handle the never ending To Do List.

Then fuel your body with high quality, GOOD food most of the time. It doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your glass of wine but it does mean that the majority of the time, you’re giving your body good, not processed, fresh af food.

Maybe that means meal prepping, snack prepping, getting a meal delivery service, busting out the crockpot, or whatever works the best for your family. For all of us, the strategies that are effective are different but the intention has to be the same.

When all else fails, get the support you need to remind you that you matter, your goals matter and you have help to grant there.

Perfection is the enemy of progress.

When I have a client who comes in with a fresh blow out or a face full of make up, I make it my mission in life to ruin it. Just being honest. I’m not saying you have to look a mess when you go work out, but come on now.

When I have a client who comes in with a fresh blow out or a face full of make up, I make it my mission in life to ruin it. Just being honest. I’m not saying you have to look a mess when you go work out, but come on now.

It also doesn’t have to be perfect. Nor does your workout.

I don’t care if it’s your best workout EVER of A L L time or if you felt like you were the captain of the struggle bus.

That’s how some days go. You sleep well, the nutrition is on point, you’re properly hydrated and the workout is amazeballs. Or maybe you’re hungover, your kid kept you up all night, you didn’t eat before the workout and the workout left you checking the clock every 2 minutes wondering “when is this gonna be done?”.

There are so many factors that go into working out. Shoot maybe you’re comparing yourself to the woman next to you with that full face of make up and the perfect body, oh did I mention she’s wearing a matching outfit? And it throws off your game.

Whether you realize the factors impacting your workout or not, there’s a bigger picture to be seen.

That taking time out of your day, investing in yourself and in your journey, and just showing up for yourself is something to be celebrated. It indicates that you’re making progress even if the progress isn’t how you WANT it to look, you’re continuing to put those habits into place that will get you the transformation that you want and at the end of it all, even if you drive the struggle bus, it’s still perfect.

What Do You Do When Your Workouts SUCK?

Just because I’m in the fitness industry and train people daily doesn’t mean I don’t have times in my own workouts where I want to LITERALLY throw my towel across the room. Maybe I slept shitty, maybe I didn’t eat properly before, shoot maybe I’m near my cycle, or maybe a certain small human keeps interrupting me.

Girl I have some workouts that S U C K. Still.

I know I could let those days totally get me down, I could even stop the workout early if I wasn’t feeling it. Or just half ass my effort…

Those solutions don’t work for me though.

Prior to my injury, I worked out on a regular basis. It was out of necessity. My role in the military dictated that I maintain a certain physical standard so working out and nutrition were priorities of mine. It created habits in me that have stayed with me even until today.

Working out after I recovered from my injury as well as after I had Grace SUCKED. I knew I had to do it to have the kind of quality of life I was seeking, and I had the habits as well as skill set in place to work out efficiently, but it was horrible. I didn’t feel strong, it took a lot of frustrating time to understand the capabilities of my body post all the surgeries, and it HURT. My body was in pain, it was inflamed, and while I listened to my limitations and did workouts that were appropriate for me, it still hurt.

I started doing two things when I worked out and I wasn’t feeling it to get myself through:

  1. I used visualization. It helped clear my mind, it gave me something to focus on besides what I was doing, and it distracted me enough to get through the workout. What I visualize differs depending on my mood, and I usually go to whatever my mind naturally wanders towards. It’s either my end goal, like my ultimate goal for myself in my own fitness journey OR it’s the visualization of how far I’ve come. I see myself in a bed at my parents’ house unable to walk and I visualize the journey I’ve already gone through that’s gotten me to today.

  2. I think of something positive and I put that shit on repeat. We tend to get so negative and critical when we’re working out. It’s the “we’re not enough” syndrome kicking in. Fuck that. I think about how I’ve made it through 100% of my bad days, so I got this or I think “you can do this” and I put that on replay in my mind until my workout is done.

It works for me, it doesn’t make the workout magically become easier but it gives me a clearer focus so I can get through what I’m doing.

Then, and this is key, at the end of the workout, even if it’s the worst workout of all time and I’m so happy it’s over I’m not even enjoying the endorphin rush, I celebrate the workout. I celebrate the fact that I woke up, that my body can move and give me this gift, and that I GET to give this time to myself.

1% better everyday. That’s all I want.

I’ve noticed after all these years of working with ALL these different types of people that everyone shares these commonalities: when you want the change, you want it in a major way and you want it to happen instantaneously

I’ve noticed after all these years of working with ALL these different types of people that everyone shares these commonalities: when you want the change, you want it in a major way and you want it to happen instantaneously.

I can appreciate that sentiment. You’ve been living in this space of ick for so long, it feels like there’s been so much time wasted that when you FINALLY say “ok I’m doing this, I’m making a change”, you want the change NOW. Or yesterday. Whichever is more efficient right?

I’m all here for that kind of attitude. When you want to change your lifestyle so much that you can’t think about anything else and you are bound and determined to make this shit happen for you. That kind of mindset, as a coach, is amazing to work with because you’re not letting anything stand in your way. You suddenly realize how bogus your excuses were and you’re willing to do the work, excuses be damned.

The bad thing about this kind of determination is that it often leads to so many drastic changes, that after you’ve reached your goal, you can’t maintain it.

Like you want so badly to lose the last of the baby weight, that you cut out everything and pretty much eat the diet equivalent of a rabbit. Naturally the weight comes off fast, you breathe this sigh of relief and go back to doing what you were doing before. So long rabbit food. Except now the weight has come back on and more than what you were wanting to lose before.

Thus begins a dangerous habit of yo-yo dieting that can do all kinds of nasty things to your metabolism, not to mention your self esteem because you’re always feeling like you need to lose weight.

I know my way is more frustrating because the result isn’t instantaneous. But I’m not thinking about the short game, I’m thinking about the long game. I’m thinking that this is going to be the last major change that you need to make because at the end of it, you’ll know your limits, you’ll have control over them and you’ll know that what you’ve done isn’t a diet but a lifestyle change.

Have You Fallen off the New Year's Bandwagon?

So don’t beat yourself up if your resolutions already seem lost or if it feels like you’ve taken a step backwards. You haven’t and the fact that you give a shit shows that.

Have you already fallen off the New Years’ resolution bandwagon?

Cool. It means you’re human.

Oh you thought I was going to jump all over you? Healthy living means being able to adapt to the chaos that is everyday living. It means knowing and implementing the steps necessary for you to be able to have the healthiest life possible that supports you reaching the goals you’ve set for yourself. Pretty much it means knowing how to be healthy even when all your plans go to shit.

So don’t beat yourself up if your resolutions already seem lost or if it feels like you’ve taken a step backwards. You haven’t and the fact that you give a shit shows that.

Change is made from incremental adjustments in your life.

Your transformation will happen. As long as you don’t quit.

Really it’s that simple. Don’t quit. You fell off the bandwagon, but you know it and you know that’s not something you want for yourself and you know that this year, accepting that you fell off the bandwagon doesn’t work for you.

Healthy living isn’t just about weight loss and ditching your baggy mom sweater to hide your mom fluff.

The reality of adulting and being a parent is that there’s going to be obstacles in life. Your best intentions sometimes might have to be put on the back burner so you can take care of other things. It’s about putting those habits into place so when life throws something your way and you get distracted, you know how to get back on track and can do it quickly.

Jump back in, start again, do it now and don’t beat yourself up for it.

You Have to Want to Lose Weight

You have to want to lose weight more than you want the donuts your co-worker brought into work today.

At least more than you want the donuts your co-worker brought into work today.

Willpower. That’s what it all comes down to when you want to lose weight. Are the donuts more important than your weight loss goal?

Now isn’t that a different kind of muscle to work?

It’s that ability to take a moment and think about the short term gratification verses your long term goals and what matters more to you.

I’m not saying that you should never eat a donut again. Let’s be clear. Donuts are amazing.

What I am saying is that you have to have a clear perspective about what your goals are, what you want and where your priorities lie. Which means that most of the time, sadly yes, you’re going to have to be stronger than the donut and say no to it. You’re going to have to walk away and think about where you want to end up.

Keep reminding yourself of the long game. Keep reminding yourself of what matters to you and how much it matters.

Exercise your willpower and eventually it’ll be much easier to say no to the donuts.
